Amanda Bynes has reportedly been “talking to herself in unintelligible sentences” for months.

The 27-year-old former actress is currently under a 5150 hold after she set a fire in a residential driveway Monday night.

The California legislation sees those deemed by authorities to be a danger to themselves and others forced into hospital to have their mental state evaluated for up to 72 hours.

It is rumoured medical professionals have requested an extension to the three-day evaluation period as they believe the star is suffering from schizophrenia.

Bynes has been embroiled in a number of bizarre situations recently. She has lived in countless apartment buildings and hotels since moving to New York City in 2012.

Apparently neighbours often heard her walking in communal areas speaking a “nonsensical” language.

“When she was living at her apartment near New York’s Times Square, neighbours spotted her wandering the halls and talking to herself in unintelligible sentences,” a source told Radar Online.

This symptomatic behaviour supposedly began during Bynes’ professional heyday in the late 1990s, when she was starring on Nickelodeon teen sketch comedy show All That.
