Album review: Pins & Needles – Eavesdrop

PINS & NEEDLES
Eavesdrop
(Loop/Border)

Classicly Kiwi drum n bass from David “Eavesdrop” Wood – out just in time to catch the last of the bare-foot-in-a-field or arms-up-on-the-beach party season.

Loop has a history of releasing this country’s grooviest Aotearoa-beat dance music and this debut is another strong offering.

At times the tracks can sound dated when compared to European drum n bass and the heavy orchestration (Christchurch violinist Yoomia is a standout on Violin Blossom) will undoubtedly make some tracks regulars on winery restaurant compilation playlists.

But the faster and heavier end of the Eavesdrop spectrum is great dance music and, while the sky stays blue and the autumn rains stay away, Pins & Needles has a chance to soundtrack another endless summer.
