80s star’s ultimate humiliation

Times are hard for 1980s chart-toppers UB40. It’s like there’s a rat in their kitchen and they don’t know what to do.

Despite selling more than 70 million records and achieving worldwide success with such hits as Red Red Wine and I Got You Babe, some of the band’s members have gone bankrupt.

The financial turmoil has been toughest on UB40’s sax player Brian Travers: he’s so skint, he’s now accepting gigs with UB40 tribute bands.

The Sun spotted Travers playing with UB42 at a pub in Ipswich, England, although he took his discovery in good spirits.

“I know of about 20 UB40 tribute bands around the world and it’s my ambition to play with all of them. I can’t think of a better way of thanking them for celebrating the music of UB40,” he said.
